Most of us got our formal sex education (if we got any at all) from school presentations that were clinical and primarily geared toward instilling the fear of unplanned pregnancy as the most important message regarding our emerging, raging, sexual energy. I’ve yet to meet a woman whose formal sexual education even mentioned an orgasm or the clitoris!
Informally, it wasn’t much better. Most of our informal sex ed came from television and movies that erroneously depict women experiencing fabulous orgasms strictly through intercourse (which, in reality, happens for about one in five women). And then of course, we relied on our goofy teenage friends and sweethearts for the trial and error “hands-on” training.
Now, after thirty-some years of letting our “inner teenager” rule our sex lives, we have the time, maturity, and interest in finding new and better ways to enjoy it.
And we can perhaps fill in the gaps we may have with accurate, and now appropriate, information. This selection is a great place to start!
